Young Business adviser Joan Richards reports that in areas of high unemployment particular Port Talbot the sense of community was so strong that when  the local shops all started closing down and there was massive unemployment. The local people all went out and brought shares in the local co-op. She says that they were good people who wanted to regenerate their community. Richards believes directors have a part to play in encouraging enterprise, especially in disadvantaged areas, by becoming mentors. Business connects runs a mentoring service.
