The best way to engage your readers and capture their undivided attention is to tell them a story that makes them laugh, makes them cry, shocks them and (most importantly) gives them something useful!

Let me tell you a story:

In the beginning, Bob made a blog.

After getting 16,000 unique visitors in his first month, Google decided to stick it to Bob’s blog by giving his main page a PageRank1 while giving most of his posts a PageRank5. Google had said to Bob the equivalent of “your blog is good…but we’re not going to let you make money from it with anything other than Adsense”.

So Bob used Adsense.

Bob earned over $100 with Adsense and was finally about to get paid when Google decided to ban Bob and take his hard earned money.

Google rubbed it in by still sending Bob letters about how to receive his Adsense payments.

Bob told Google to eat his shorts. Bob made Googlestolemymoney.com in order to get revenge and created an Adsense spin-off to keep the cash flowing.

Google reinstated Bob’s Adsense account and gave Bob back his money. Bob declared that Google loves him again.

Bob and Google are currently living happily together and Bob’s blog may finally get his hard earned PR5 in the next update….

You may not laugh, cry or be shocked by the tale but there’s definitely a lot to learn in the story of when Bob met Google and there’s a lot more of the story to be told in the ongoing adventures of what happens when Bob Meets World.

Bob does it differently

Bob didn’t create his blog to make money online and he didn’t create it to be a diary of his daily adventures either. His goal with the site was to get under the 100,000 mark on both Alexa and Technorati in the shortest time possible. As such, what he has created is an eclectic mix of all things internet that mixes up the money and promotion posts with a refreshing blend of humor, controversy and cash giveaways that combine to make for a seriously interesting read.

What I love about what Bob has created with his site is that it tells a story and is not the usual blog consisting of distinctly separate posts around the same topic. While other sites could easily be ghost written, Bob’s posts relate to each other and follow-up on events in a way that other bloggers always suggest but rarely do. Bob Meets World is not a site that can be full appreciated through a single post but must be read as a whole in order to grasp it’s message.

Bob’s underlying message is how to make money

Although Bob didn’t create the site to make money - he is making money. While he only occasionally posts about making money specifically, it’s the posts that Bob writes in between that provide the most value in my mind. He’s not afraid to try new tricks to promote his site and while that has seen him get banned by Digg and Reddit, he’s provided a lot of fresh ideas to other bloggers on how to make money. Top value posts include:

You can learn a lot just by reading those headlines. Pure linkbait! Love it!

Bob will give you a MacBook and a Wii

Bob is currently holding an online raffle where for just $10 you can buy a ticket to be in with a chance to win a MacBook or a Nintendo Wii with 4 games, two remotes and a nunchuck. That’s right…unlike most competitions on the internet, Bob is giving you two awesome prizes! Tickets are limited and each ticket has a 1 in 150 chance of winning. That’s pretty good odds.

If he doesn’t sell enough tickets in the raffle, Bob will be splitting the money earned with one lucky entrant so it’s really a great chance to get your hands on some cash and prizes!

Bob meets sex?

While Bob Meets World always provides something interesting to read, the site could be improved for Bob by focusing on a particular niche or target audience. While I personally find the posts about making money and social networking sites to be the most interesting, the Popular Posts plugin seems to be displaying that posts of a more sexual nature are the most popular on the site.

For a site that is aiming to get great rankings, you’ve really got to give your readers what they want. If the readers of Bob Meets World want stuff that’s a bit more raunchy, how can they be denied? I’m not saying that the site would be more successful as a porn site, but that it’s often better for blogs to focus on one topic rather than try to be everything to everyone.

The story of Bob continues

I subscribed to Bob Meets World about three weeks ago and I haven’t been disappointed. The ongoing adventures of Bob always provide something enjoyable and reading his posts always provide me with fresh ideas of my own to monetize and monopolize. Google may have abandoned him for a while, but I’ll be sticking around for the next chapter in the story.
